Our approach

Every project begins with an assessment of the substrate, existing coating and site conditions. The exact preparation and coating specification is then matched to the work required. For exterior work, UV-resistant systems are specified where appropriate to help reduce fading and preserve the colour and appearance for longer.

  • Detailed site assessment
  • Thorough surface preparation
  • Compatible coating systems
  • Careful masking and protection
  • Professional spray application

Agricultural cladding spraying and metal barn refurbishment

Weathered farm cladding can lose its colour, develop flaking paint or show localised corrosion while the underlying sheets remain serviceable. Our agricultural cladding refurbishment begins with an assessment of the metal, previous finish and vulnerable details. Cleaning removes suitable surface contamination; loose coatings are removed and sound edges feathered; corrosion is treated and compatible primers applied where specified. Finish coats are then applied in the agreed colour and sheen. This can refresh a metal barn, machinery shed or grain-store exterior while retaining sound existing panels.

Wooden barn painting and timber cladding

We also paint suitable wooden barns and timber agricultural buildings. Timber needs a different approach from metal: the condition of the boards, moisture, previous coating and any decay are checked first. Loose finishes are removed, sound timber is cleaned and prepared, and necessary board repairs are identified before coating. A compatible exterior timber coating or stain is selected for the agreed finish and exposure. Cleaning methods are chosen to suit the wood; high-pressure washing and metal coating systems are not applied indiscriminately to timber.

Agricultural roof coatings and cut-edge corrosion treatment

Suitable metal farm roofs can be assessed for cleaning, preparation and protective recoating. We review roof-sheet condition, previous finishes, fixings, laps, rusty edges and any known leaks before confirming the scope. Cut-edge corrosion requires compatible preparation and treatment of its own. Weak sheets, damaged roofing and defects needing replacement or separate repair must be addressed before coating where required. Roof access, weather and the selected system determine the programme; product warranty terms are confirmed for the individual project.

Steelwork, shutters, doors and farm building details

A wider farm refurbishment can include suitable painted or galvanised steelwork, columns, frames, roller shutters, personnel doors, metal gates, fencing, fascias and downpipes. Each substrate is assessed separately: galvanised metal, previously painted steel and timber require their own preparation and compatible coatings. We agree which surfaces are included and coordinate colours across the building. Protective steel coatings and any specified intumescent fire protection are separate systems with their own project requirements.

Preparation and spraying planned around your farm

Farm buildings can sit close to livestock, stored crops, feed, machinery and busy vehicle routes. We discuss these surroundings before agreeing cleaning, preparation and spraying zones. Sensitive areas are protected and the programme allows for access restrictions, weather, drying and return-to-service times. Occupied livestock buildings and food-contact surfaces need particular assessment; coating suitability and any relocation or downtime are agreed before work. If existing materials may contain asbestos, they require specialist assessment before any cleaning, preparation or coating work is proposed.

Farm building spraying in York, Yorkshire and nationwide

Apex is based in York and undertakes suitable agricultural building painting projects across North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, East Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and the wider UK. Whether you need one wooden barn painted or a coordinated refurbishment of several metal farm buildings, send us the location, overall photographs and close-ups of damaged coatings. We can discuss the surfaces, desired finish, access and practical next steps, including a site assessment where required.

What affects the cost of agricultural building spraying?

A quotation depends on the area, building height, access, substrate, existing coating condition, corrosion, repairs, masking, chosen finish and operational restrictions. A sound painted shed and a heavily weathered timber barn can need very different preparation. Send approximate dimensions, photographs of each elevation or roof, the postcode, preferred colour and details of animals or stored materials nearby. We use that information to assess the actual work and provide a clear quotation for the agreed scope.

Frequently asked questions

Do you spray agricultural buildings as well as industrial premises?

Yes. Apex prepares and coats suitable agricultural buildings, including metal barns, farm sheds, grain-store exteriors, machinery buildings and associated surfaces. The proposed work is assessed around the material, condition and use of the building.

Can you paint wooden barns as well as metal barns?

Yes. We paint suitable wooden barns and timber-clad agricultural buildings, using preparation and exterior timber finishes appropriate to the wood. Unsound or decayed boards may need repair or replacement first.

What agricultural building materials can you coat?

We assess suitable profiled metal sheets, steel, galvanised metal, timber cladding and previously painted surfaces. Primers and finishes are chosen for the specific substrate and existing coating. Send photographs if you are unsure what your building is made from.

Can a farm building be sprayed instead of replacing its cladding?

Often, where the sheets remain sound and the surface can be properly prepared. A recoat improves the finish of suitable existing panels; perforated, weakened or otherwise unsuitable sheets require separate repairs or replacement.

Can you work near livestock, feed or stored crops?

Tell us how the building and neighbouring areas are used. We assess protection, coating suitability, access and drying requirements before agreeing a programme. Animals, feed or crops may need to be moved or isolated from the work; we do not assume every coating is suitable for an occupied or food-contact area.

Can you change the colour of a barn or farm shed?

Suitable surfaces can be recoated in an agreed colour. Many metal coating systems offer RAL colours; timber colours, sheen and product options depend on the selected finish. We discuss the available options when preparing your quotation.

Do you work outside Yorkshire?

Yes. Apex is York based and works nationwide on suitable projects. Send the postcode and photographs so we can discuss your location, scope and access.
