Cladding Refurbishment

Our cladding refurbishment service restores the appearance and protection of existing industrial and commercial cladding. We assess the substrate and previous coating, chemically clean the surface, pressure wash at up to 3,500 PSI, remove loose and failing material, abrade and feather damaged edges, treat localised corrosion and prime where required before applying the specified finish. The result is a clean, consistent transformation delivered at a fraction of the disruption of full replacement.

Our approach

Every project begins with an assessment of the substrate, existing coating and site conditions. The exact preparation and coating specification is then matched to the work required. For exterior work, UV-resistant systems are specified where appropriate to help reduce fading and preserve the colour and appearance for longer.

  • Detailed site assessment
  • Thorough surface preparation
  • Compatible coating systems
  • Careful masking and protection
  • Professional spray application

Commercial cladding restoration without unnecessary replacement

Commercial cladding restoration is suitable where the existing metal sheets remain serviceable but the colour, coating or protective finish has deteriorated. Apex refurbishes warehouse, factory, retail and commercial-building cladding using preparation and coating systems selected for the existing substrate and exposure.

Loose and flaking coatings are removed, sound edges are feathered, defects are repaired and local corrosion is treated before compatible primers and finish coats are applied. This creates a professional colour-matched exterior while avoiding the cost and disruption of replacing otherwise usable panels.

Cladding preparation demonstrated on real buildings

Apex's Maher project in Sheffield involved pressure washing, cleaning and degreasing before the RAL 5026 Pearl Night Blue finish. The Dawn Foods buildings in Evesham required failed coatings to be removed and sound edges feathered, with corrosion treated before recoating. Those different starting conditions show why refurbishment is specified after checking the actual panels.

Assess the complete elevation

When surveying cladding, we also discuss adjoining trims, fascias, gutters, downpipes and doors. Including these details where suitable can create a coordinated finished elevation. We confirm which elements are in scope, where colours change and what needs masking; damaged panels and cut-edge treatment are identified separately.

How much does cladding refurbishment cost?

A reliable quotation considers panel area, access height, existing coating adhesion, corrosion, repairs, masking and the proposed system. Two buildings of the same size can require very different preparation. Send overall elevation photographs and close-ups of flaking paint, rusty edges and damaged panels. We can then discuss whether recoating is appropriate and whether a survey is needed.

Choose the system after checking the panels

The panel material, previous finish and exposure determine the preparation and coating. We assess cleaning and abrasion requirements, local repairs and compatible priming before agreeing topcoats, colour and sheen. Sound sheets may be retained; perforated or structurally deteriorated areas require separate repair or replacement. A new finish cannot compensate for unsound metal beneath it.

Frequently asked questions

Can faded or peeling cladding be recoated?

Often, where the sheets remain serviceable and the surface can be made sound. Peeling coatings must be removed and remaining edges prepared before a compatible system is applied.

Will you assess rusty sheet edges separately?

Yes. Cut edges and laps need their own assessment and compatible treatment. Where the metal is too deteriorated, repair or replacement may be required before wider recoating.
