Can a factory stay open during spray coating work?
How access, cleaning, masking and application can be planned around an operational factory or warehouse.

Start with the site's operation
Many coating projects can be planned around a working site, but the answer depends on the surfaces, ventilation, nearby production, vehicle routes and the coating system. A survey should identify where staff, goods, visitors and spray work would overlap before a programme is agreed.
Divide the work into controlled areas
An exterior refurbishment can often be sequenced by elevation or work zone. The plan should account for deliveries, entrances, parked vehicles, extraction points and any sensitive operations. Cleaning and preparation also need their own controlled stages; spraying is only part of the programme.
- Agree access and working hours with the site team
- Protect glazing, signs, vehicles and adjoining surfaces
- Keep people clear of washing, sanding and application areas
- Allow for drying, curing and weather delays
- Inspect each area before moving to the next
When a shutdown may be needed
Some internal or sensitive areas cannot be safely isolated while normal work continues. Product requirements, ventilation, overspray control and the client's operational needs may make a planned shutdown or out-of-hours window the sensible option. This is decided for the actual site and specified coating, rather than promised in advance.
A real factory example
At Humdinger Foods in Lincoln, Apex carried out roof and exterior refurbishment within a strict window while the factory was closed. The programme included cleaning, removal of failing coatings, careful preparation and coordinated spraying. The project shows why the available working window should be built into the method and quotation from the outset.
What to send with an enquiry
Provide the site location, surfaces and approximate dimensions, photographs, operating hours, delivery times and any areas that cannot be interrupted. Apex can then assess whether work can be phased around operations or needs a dedicated closure period.
