Apex completed project
Fairline Boatyard — Industrial Cladding Refurbishment in RAL 8017 Chocolate Brown — Oundle, Northamptonshire, near Peterborough
Apex Specialist Spray Coatings Ltd completed an exterior cladding refurbishment at Fairline’s boatyard in Oundle, near Peterborough — a manufacturing site where luxury yachts are built.
The project involved restoring the appearance of a large industrial building whose existing exterior coating had suffered extensive peeling and flaking. Apex carried out the preparation and spray coating work, with particular attention given to removing failed paint and preparing the remaining surfaces before applying the new finish.
The scale of the building and the condition of the original paintwork made this a substantial preparation project. Several days of scraping and sanding were required before the cladding was ready for spraying. Apex approached the work methodically, addressing the deteriorated coating rather than simply painting over loose material.
Finished in RAL 8017 Chocolate Brown, the refurbishment gave the building a cleaner, more consistent exterior appearance suited to its setting within a luxury yacht manufacturing facility. The project demonstrates Apex’s approach to industrial cladding spraying, factory exterior refurbishment and commercial building spray painting: thorough preparation followed by carefully controlled application.

Before work began
Original condition
Before Apex began the refurbishment, the existing paintwork was badly peeling and flaking across affected areas of the exterior cladding. The deterioration was particularly noticeable on surfaces exposed to direct sunlight, leaving the building with an uneven and weathered appearance.
Loose paint, lifting edges and areas of failed coating created a surface that required extensive attention before respraying. Applying a new finish over these areas without removing unstable material would have left the underlying preparation problem unresolved.
For a large industrial building at a luxury yacht manufacturing site, the deteriorated exterior also affected the overall presentation of the premises. The work therefore required more than a colour refresh: Apex needed to remove failed paint, prepare the retained coating and establish a suitable surface for the refurbishment.
The Apex standard
Preparation
Apex completed an extensive preparation programme before spraying the building. The cladding was cleaned, degreased and pressure washed to remove accumulated dirt, surface contamination and loosened coating material.
The most demanding stage involved several days of scraping and sanding. Apex worked through the affected areas to remove loose, peeling and flaking paint, paying close attention to lifting edges and the transitions between exposed surfaces and retained paintwork.
The edges of the remaining coating were sanded and feathered to reduce abrupt ridges and create smoother transitions for the new finish. This detailed preparation was essential to improving the appearance of the completed respray and avoiding a finish that simply followed the rough edges of the old paint.
Following preparation, the surfaces were cleaned and checked before coating. Adjacent areas were protected as required for spray application. Apex’s work on this project highlights the amount of practical preparation involved in industrial cladding refurbishment, particularly where the previous coating has suffered widespread failure.
Completed finish
The result
Apex transformed the building’s exterior from visibly peeling and uneven paintwork into a refreshed Chocolate Brown finish. The completed cladding respray created a more consistent appearance across the refurbished surfaces and improved the overall presentation of the industrial premises.
RAL 8017 Chocolate Brown gave the building a strong, cohesive appearance appropriate to its setting at Fairline’s luxury yacht manufacturing facility. The visual transformation was supported by the substantial preparation carried out beforehand, including days spent scraping, sanding and carefully preparing the failed coating.
This project demonstrates Apex Specialist Spray Coatings Ltd’s capability in industrial building spray painting, cladding refurbishment and factory exterior renovation. From the initial cleaning and paint removal through to preparation and the finished respray, Apex completed the work with attention to the condition of the existing surfaces and the presentation of the final result.
