Before work began
Original condition
The container had been exposed to the elements within the solar farm and was showing extensive surface corrosion and deterioration across the sides, ends and roof.
The existing finish was heavily weathered, with rust affecting numerous areas. Without proper preparation and recoating, the corrosion would have continued to spread and could eventually have compromised the metalwork.
The Apex standard
Preparation
I carefully inspected the complete container before beginning the refurbishment process.
All four sides and the roof were thoroughly prepared, with loose and failing coatings removed. The corroded areas were mechanically sanded and ground back to remove rust and create a sound surface for the new coating system.
The remaining surfaces were sanded to provide a suitable key. All dust and contamination were removed before the affected metalwork was treated and primed. Surrounding solar-farm equipment was carefully protected throughout the work.
Completed finish
The result
The complete 208 m² container, including both sides, both ends and the roof, was professionally spray finished in RAL 6005 Moss Green.
The refurbishment completely transformed the tired and heavily corroded container, producing a clean, even and professional finish that suits its surroundings at the solar farm.
More importantly, the new protective coating system sealed and protected the prepared metalwork, helping to prevent further corrosion and extend the working life of the container. This project demonstrates how badly weathered industrial equipment can be restored without the disruption and expense of complete replacement.
