Why industrial coatings fail — and how rework is reduced
Common causes of peeling, rust bleed, poor adhesion, uneven sheen and premature coating breakdown on commercial buildings.

Contamination and weak existing coatings
Grease, traffic film, dust, salts and chalking can remain invisible on a surface. Applying over contamination or a weak existing layer means the new coating may separate with the layer beneath it.
Incorrect preparation or product choice
Insufficient abrasion, coating over active corrosion, incompatible primers and a finish unsuited to the substrate or environment are common causes of early failure.
Application conditions
Temperature, humidity, surface temperature, condensation risk, mixing accuracy, pot life, film build and recoat windows all affect performance.
- Confirm the surface is clean and dry
- Use the specified mixing ratio
- Maintain a consistent wet edge
- Allow the stated cure before service
Reducing avoidable rework
A disciplined survey, recorded preparation process, compatible coating specification and inspection between stages cost less than repairing widespread failure after completion.
