Units 12–16 Full External Cladding Refurbishment — Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire
I completed a full external spray refurbishment of Units 12–16 in Huntingdon, covering the entire building on every elevation.
The project included the refurbishment of all external cladding, windows, entrance doors and roller shutters. The cladding was finished in RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey, while the windows, doors and shutters were finished in RAL 7035 Light Grey.
Every surface was thoroughly prepared before being professionally spray-applied with a durable Selemix polyurethane coating system. The project transformed the appearance of the complete building and created a smart, consistent finish across all five units.

Coating systemThe prepared cladding, windows, entrance doors and roller shutters were professionally spray-applied using a Selemix Direct 2K polyurethane coating system. This high-performance coating provides a hard-wearing, weather-resistant finish suitable for industrial and commercial exterior surfaces. It offers excellent adhesion, strong colour retention and long-term protection against everyday exposure to sunlight, rain and changing temperatures. The coating was applied evenly to achieve consistent colour, coverage and finish across every elevation of the building.

Before work began
Original condition
The building’s existing exterior had become tired and inconsistent, with weathered coatings, areas of flaking paint and numerous fixing holes affecting the appearance of the elevations.
These defects needed to be properly treated before spraying. Applying a new coating directly over loose or contaminated surfaces would have affected adhesion and reduced the lifespan of the finished system.
The windows, doors and roller shutters also required refurbishment so they complemented the newly coated cladding and produced a coordinated finish around the whole building.
The Apex standard
Preparation
All external surfaces were chemically cleaned to remove dirt, grime, atmospheric contamination and other residues that could interfere with coating adhesion.
Every elevation was carefully inspected, and all loose or flaking paint was removed. The remaining coating edges were sanded and feathered to create a smooth transition into the sound surrounding surfaces.
Unwanted holes in the cladding were filled and finished to improve the overall appearance. The windows, doors, shutters and surrounding areas were then carefully taped and masked to control overspray and achieve clean, accurate edges.
This comprehensive preparation provided a clean, stable and properly keyed surface for the new polyurethane coating system.
Completed finish
The result
The completed refurbishment completely transformed Units 12–16, giving the full building a clean, modern and professionally coordinated appearance.
The RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey cladding provides a strong contemporary finish, while the RAL 7035 Light Grey windows, doors and roller shutters create a smart contrast and define the building’s features.
Completing every elevation ensured the improvement continued around the entire property rather than being limited to the front. The filled holes, repaired coating defects and carefully prepared surfaces produced a much smoother and more consistent result.
The finished Selemix polyurethane system also provides the building with a durable protective coating designed to withstand exterior exposure and maintain its appearance for years to come.
