Geely Car Garage — Curtain Walling and Entrance Renovation — Chesterfield
Following the successful transformation of the external cladding at Geely Car Garage in Chesterfield, Apex Specialist Spray Coatings LTD was invited back to complete the next phase of the dealership’s exterior renovation.
The client had been extremely pleased with the quality of our previous workmanship and the finished appearance of the cladding. This return visit provided the opportunity to continue the transformation across the remaining exterior features and create a more complete, coordinated finish.
This phase covered the preparation and professional spray coating of the curtain walling, sliding entrance doors and fire door. These prominent features form a major part of the dealership’s main elevation and customer entrance, so achieving a clean, consistent and high-quality appearance was essential.
All specified surfaces were finished in RAL 9005 Jet Black. This bold colour complemented the previously renovated cladding and gave the dealership a much sharper, more contemporary appearance.
The completed work brought the separate exterior elements together, helping transform what had previously looked tired and dated into a modern commercial premises with a strong, premium identity.

Coating systemA professional polyurethane coating system was spray applied across the fully prepared curtain walling, sliding entrance doors and fire door. The application process began with a controlled dust coat. This initial coat created the foundation for the following coats and allowed the finish to be built up progressively across the prepared surfaces. Two complete top coats were then applied in RAL 9005 Jet Black. Applying the coating in carefully controlled stages helped achieve consistent coverage, colour consistency and a uniform factory-quality finish across the complete frontage.

Before work began
Original condition
Before this phase of the renovation began, the curtain walling, sliding entrance doors and fire door had a tired and dated appearance that no longer complemented the newly transformed external cladding.
As highly visible parts of the dealership’s frontage, these surfaces significantly affected the overall presentation of the premises. Leaving them in their previous condition would have made the external refurbishment look incomplete and created an obvious contrast between the renovated cladding and the remaining original features.
The existing surfaces also required thorough cleaning and mechanical preparation before they could be recoated. Contamination, grease and smooth existing finishes can prevent a new coating from adhering correctly if they are not addressed during preparation.
The condition of every surface was therefore assessed before spraying began. The objective was not simply to change the colour, but to establish a properly cleaned, keyed and protected surface capable of supporting the new coating system and delivering a durable finished result.

Preparation
Preparation was completed methodically because the quality and durability of any spray finish depend heavily on the condition of the underlying surface.
The curtain walling, sliding entrance doors and fire door were first thoroughly cleaned and degreased. This removed surface dirt, grease and other contamination that could interfere with coating adhesion or affect the uniformity of the completed finish.
Once clean, all surfaces were Scotch-keyed to create the mechanical profile required for the new coating to bond correctly. Particular attention was given to edges, corners, framework and detailed sections where insufficient preparation could lead to visible defects or premature coating failure.
The surrounding glazing, elevations and adjoining surfaces were then carefully masked and protected. Accurate masking was essential around the curtain walling and entrance areas to produce sharp lines, control overspray and protect every surface that was not being coated.
Only after the cleaning, degreasing, Scotch keying and masking had been completed and checked did the team proceed with the spray application.

The result
The completed work has transformed the appearance of Geely Car Garage and successfully continued the standard established during the earlier cladding renovation.
The RAL 9005 Jet Black finish gives the curtain walling, sliding entrance doors and fire door a clean, bold and contemporary appearance. These newly coated elements now complement the previously transformed cladding, bringing the different sections of the exterior together as one coordinated design.
The dealership frontage has changed from a tired and dated appearance into a sleek, modern commercial exterior that reflects the quality and presentation expected from a contemporary automotive brand.
The smooth polyurethane finish provides a premium, factory-quality appearance while also offering durability, exterior protection and resistance to ultraviolet exposure.
This project also demonstrates the value of specialist spray renovation. Existing curtain walling and doors were successfully transformed without the cost, disruption and waste involved in replacing otherwise serviceable components.
Most importantly, the client was sufficiently impressed with Apex’s original cladding transformation to invite the team back for this additional phase. That repeat instruction reflects the quality of the previous result and the trust established through professional preparation, careful application and attention to detail.
