BYD Car Showroom – Full Exterior and Window Refurbishment — Morpeth, Northumberland

I was responsible for completing the full spray refurbishment of a car showroom in Morpeth, Northumberland, as part of its transformation into a newly branded BYD dealership. The project involved much more than a straightforward colour change. I refurbished and professionally spray coated all the showroom’s external cladding, together with the window frames on both their internal and external faces, the window sills and the main architectural columns. The removal of the previous signage had also left a number of fixing holes within the cladding. I repaired these areas before beginning the coating work, filling the holes and carefully sanding and feathering the repairs into the surrounding panels to create a smooth and consistent surface. Careful preparation and detailed masking were particularly important around the showroom windows. Both sides of the frames required coating, meaning the interior and exterior areas had to be properly protected throughout the application process. After completing all preparation and repair work, I professionally spray applied a matt finish in RAL 7005 Mouse Grey across the specified cladding, window frames, window sills and columns. The completed colour scheme gave the dealership a clean, modern and coordinated appearance that suited the new BYD branding. With the permanent signage now installed, the full transformation can be seen, and I am extremely pleased with the finished result.

The two-pack polyurethane coating was finished in RAL 7005 Mouse Grey with a matt sheen, creating a tough, durable and consistent finish suitable for the exposed exterior surfaces and customer-facing areas of the BYD showroom. The coating application was carefully controlled across the different building elements to provide consistent colour, coverage and appearance throughout the complete refurbishment.

Before work began

Original condition

The showroom required a complete visual transformation to prepare it for its new identity as a BYD dealership. The existing cladding, window frames, window sills and columns did not provide the consistent modern appearance required for the new branding and colour scheme. Removing the previous signage had left a series of fixing holes within the cladding panels. These defects needed to be properly repaired because simply coating over them would have left the old mounting points visible beneath the finished surface. The window frames also required coating internally and externally. This created a detailed preparation and masking requirement to protect the glazing, interior finishes and adjoining surfaces while producing a consistent finish around the complete window system. The condition and layout of the building meant that careful preparation was essential before the new matt RAL 7005 coating could be applied.

The Apex standard

Preparation

I began by carefully inspecting the cladding, window frames, window sills, columns and all areas previously used to mount the old dealership signage. I filled the fixing holes left in the cladding and allowed the repair material to cure before sanding the repaired areas. I then feathered the edges into the surrounding panels to remove visible ridges and produce a smooth transition beneath the new coating. The wider surfaces were cleaned, abraded and prepared as required to provide a suitable foundation for the new finish. I paid particular attention to panel edges, joints, repaired sections and the detailed areas around the window systems. Because the window frames were being sprayed on both their internal and external faces, I completed extensive masking to protect the glass, showroom interior and every adjoining surface that was not included within the coating specification. Once the preparation, repairs and masking had been checked, the cladding, window frames, window sills and columns were ready for professional spray application.

Completed finish

The result

The completed refurbishment completely transformed the appearance of the Morpeth car showroom. I repaired and blended the fixing holes left by the former signage before professionally spray coating all specified cladding, window frames, window sills and columns in RAL 7005 Mouse Grey with a matt finish. Coating the window frames internally and externally created a properly coordinated result, ensuring that the new colour continued consistently across the customer-facing exterior and the visible internal areas of the showroom. The Mouse Grey finish gave the building a clean, modern and premium appearance that worked perfectly with the new BYD identity. The newly installed signage now stands out clearly against the refurbished elevation and completes the dealership’s transformation. With the permanent BYD signage in position and every element brought together, I am over the moon with the finished result.
